The Reason Why Space Fascinates Each and Every One of Us
When we look up at the sky, we all see something different
When I asked my eight-year-old brother what makes him enjoy learning about the stars and galaxies and here’s what he said:
‘Space is so cool and amazing because of how big it is. It’s beautiful, there’s so much to explore and you have all these huge cosmic things like black holes and neutron stars.’
He’s right. Space is big. As children, everything seems large and expansive, and the world itself seems like an endless space that kept on growing and growing. But once we reach adulthood, we realize just how small it really is.
That walk to your school? It might’ve seemed like it was so far away as a child, but now the distance seems minuscule. Even the outside world seems small. We can hop on a plane and be on the other side of the globe in less than a day. We’ve almost mapped the entire planet and can see almost every city, town, and village. It’s as though we’ve explored everything on Earth already.
But there is one place that we don’t know much about. The expanse that lies beyond our planet. The expanse we call space. Why does it fascinate us and continue to fascinate us throughout our lives?
