What Trump and Hitler Actually Have In Common

And why the Trumpian lie can be just as dangerous.

Yes, comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler is sensationalist. I mean, Trump hasn’t killed anybody. He hasn’t locked anyone in concentration camps. Well, there was that time he chucked migrant children into cages. And there was also that time he sicced the National Guard on peaceful protesters at Lafayette Park. Oh yeah, some of his supporters actually greet him with a Nazi salute. But, for the love of Josh, he hasn’t killed anybody!

Ok, in all seriousness, Trump isn’t as bad as Hitler. Nowhere close.

But consider the following passage from Mein Kampf:

“All this was inspired by the principle — which is quite true within itself — that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.

Yes, actually, he has. He chose to do nothing about the coronavirus pandemic despite receiving accurate information on it (as he admitted to Bob Woodward), opting instead to "downplay it", gull his followers into thinking it was just media hype, and…...

AMEN! Of all the appallingly large number of analyses I've read of the Trump phenomenon, this one is spot-on. You are absolutely right that there is no alternative to prosecuting Trump (and ideally imprisoning him for life) if we are to successfully…...

And here in the UK we have someone in charge with a similar record on telling the truth... and he's still got a following. I started by calling him a pocket Trump, but lately it's been more like Pocket Putin. Scary.
