Why Nobody Should Be an Atheist

If we are choosing reason over blind faith, then there is no logical reason to be an atheist.

Since the birth of modernization, there has been a decline in organized religion. Science has provided answers to some unexplained phenomena that were attributed to the Gods and spirits. We have laid aside many superstitious beliefs. Lightning isn’t Zeus showing his anger, nor is the rainbow a bridge that reaches between the earth and the realm of the Gods, like it was believed in the Greek and Norse mythology, respectively.

As someone who was born and raised in Nigeria, I didn’t have to grapple with the logic or illogic of believing in the supernatural. It’s just part of us from birth. Wherever you turn, people suggest the existence of a God(s).

Research has shown that humans are predisposed to believe in Gods and the afterlife — Not just those of us with a heavy religious background. Children below the age of three accredit their parents and God with the ability of all-seeing and all-knowing. At four, they understand that their parents are not all-seeing or all-knowing, but they continue to believe these powers are possessed by a God.
